Sound Factory

Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent - Victor Hugo

Guitars, ukuleles, drums, and pianos are just some of the instruments you will see upon entering Sound Factory. Located at 1621 South Nicholson Street, Sound Factory has been providing Prince George with quality instruments and top notch music lessons for years.

The passion of the owner, management, staff and teachers was obvious as soon as I entered the shop. Excitement oozed out of owner Aidyl as she gave myself and another gentleman a tour of the building and rooms. Every room had a story to tell and every instrument a song to sing.

So who is Sound Factory? Opened in 2003 by Owner Dave and now owned by Aidyl Jago, Sound Factory is a multi purpose company. Operating as a music school, audio gear sales and rentals, audio production services, instrument service and repairs, vinyl record sales and the sale of new and used instruments, there is something for the whole family. Every employee is involved in the community somehow whether though music or other volunteer organizations. Owner Aidyl has been part of the music business since 1996 also carries a degree in Radio and TV Arts.

Sound Factory has participated in many community and charity events around PG. Just recently they spent two weeks with up to two performances a day at CNC and UNBC putting on concerts for the evacuees and their families of the wildfires. Hosting open mics with tents literally set up behind them they were able to bring some joy and music to those who were stressed and scared in the evacuation center.

Sound Factory has also been involved with events such as the Cold Snap Festivals, Canada Day celebrations, and Arts Wells Festivals.  You can even rent equipment for your own events!

What you need to know about Sound Factory is that they are inclusive. Everybody can learn no matter what age or abilities you may or may not have. Tired of the piano and want to learn to sing? They will set you up with a teacher that works for you. Maybe you have a child with special needs that just wants to bang the drums? Sound Factory wants you to feel safe to come with your child and do that. There is an amazing kids lounge for parents and children to wait while other members of the family are in lessons. The lounge has instruments for kids to play, chairs and couches to read a magazine while you wait or toys and video games to entertain yourself.

Perhaps you are feeling a little overwhelmed with your lessons? Take a breather and visit with the store mascot Rico the dog. Your stress will melt away and you will be ready to bang those keys again.

What's extremely cool about Sound Factory? They just received the number 1 spot in the Citizen Readers Choice Awards for their category!

So take an hour or two  and head down to Sound Factory with the family. Talk to the teachers about vocal or music

instrument lessons. Check out some of the old school vinyl records for sale. Pick up a new guitar and treat yourself. Let music inspire you.
